Notes: 2025 AHA ACLS - Refresher Course 1 Day

This course will be taught in accordance with the 2025 American Heart Association (AHA) ACLS Guidelines, reflecting the most current evidence-based updates in advanced cardiovascular life support. The 2025 updates emphasize high-quality CPR, early defibrillation, effective team dynamics, and refined algorithms for cardiac arrest, bradycardia, tachycardia, and post–cardiac arrest care.

ACLS Provider Recertification Course

This course is intended for ACLS recertification only. Participants must have previously been certified in ACLS.

Course Format

The 2025 ACLS Provider Course includes required pre-course preparation to ensure students arrive ready to participate in the hands-on training. Prior to class, participants must complete the mandatory Pre-course Self-Assessment along with the required online video lessons.

During the classroom session, instructors guide participants through discussions and scenario-based simulations using manikins and resuscitation equipment. Students will practice essential skills while receiving coaching and feedback from the instructor.

Throughout the course, students will demonstrate competency in required skills based on the official ACLS testing checklists. At the end of the course, participants must successfully complete the ACLS Provider written exam to verify their understanding of key concepts.

Intended Audience

The ACLS course is designed for healthcare professionals who either lead or participate in the management of cardiopulmonary arrest and other cardiovascular emergencies. This may include personnel working in emergency response, emergency departments, critical care areas, or intensive care settings. Typical participants include physicians, nurses, paramedics, and other healthcare providers who require ACLS certification for their role.

Course Content

The 2025 ACLS course emphasizes a systematic and team-based approach to managing cardiac emergencies. Key topics include:

  • High-performance resuscitation teams and effective communication

  • High-quality Basic Life Support and CPR performance

  • Systematic assessment and management of cardiopulmonary emergencies

  • Recognition and treatment of life-threatening cardiac rhythms

  • Defibrillation and synchronized cardioversion

  • ACLS medications and advanced interventions including IV/IO access and pacing

  • Post–cardiac arrest care and strategies to improve patient outcomes

  • Recognition and early treatment of stroke and acute coronary syndromes

Skills Expectations

Participants attending an ACLS renewal course should already be comfortable performing core clinical skills, including:

  • Delivering high-quality BLS according to current AHA CPR and ECC Guidelines

  • Interpreting electrocardiograms (ECGs)

  • Understanding ACLS pharmacology

  • Performing effective bag-mask ventilation

Course Features

The updated 2025 ACLS course, based on the latest AHA Guidelines, focuses heavily on coordinated team resuscitation, high-quality CPR, and structured approaches to managing cardiac arrest and other cardiovascular emergencies. Updates include changes to medication considerations, airway management practices emphasizing visible chest rise, and the growing use of tools such as point-of-care ultrasound in resuscitation care.

Skills Testing

Students will complete several required skills evaluations during the course, including:

  • High-Quality BLS Skills Testing emphasizing effective chest compressions and minimal interruptions

  • Megacode team scenarios where participants demonstrate coordinated resuscitation management and teamwork

Course Completion

Participants who successfully complete all course requirements will receive an American Heart Association ACLS Provider eCard, which is valid for two years.
